Barolo, Brunate

Barolo, Brunate, 2022

justerini & brooks tasting note

Full bodied but with finer, chalkier tannins after Bricco Viole, it offers a complex mix of red and dark fruits, and impressive impact. For all its richness, there is a radiance and salinity here too. The Riserva 2022 was not produced, so all the best fruit in 2022 made it into the regular Brunate. Brunate is one of the top cru vineyards of Barolo, situated high up in the La Morra commune. Marengo's 0.6ha of Brunate is split across two parcels averaging 350 metres of altitude. Brunate has been in Marco’s family since 1903 and the vines average seventy years old. Aged in 10% new oak barriques for 24 months.

critic reviews

92/100Antonio Galloni,Vinous

The 2022 Barolo Brunate is a potent, somber wine. A blast of dark cherry, espresso, licorice, cloves, new leather and incense gives the 2022 its decidedly somber, virile personality. The 2022 offers quite a bit of immediacy and appeal, with less of the heft of some recent vintages, although there is plenty of depth. It's a fine choice for drinking over the medium term.
