Barolo, Riserva, Ginestra, 2006
Whilst the slickness of the vintage dominates the 2007 Riserva this 2006 is all about terroir. An excellent Barolo of vitality and energy, pulsating with stone, earth, mineral spice and dark berry fruit flavours. Beautifully delinated fruit set in a toned, muscular texture, expanding into a long, lively finish. Stunning. From South facing vines in the stellar Ginestra Cru of Monforte situated at between 300-350 metres above sea level. The wine is aged in large 35hl French cask for 3 years followed by a further 6-12 months ageing in bottle.
critic reviews
(this was aged for five years in large casks): Good medium red. Musky, balsamic nose offers black cherry, currant, sandalwood, dried flowers, licorice and truffle. Sweet, dense and lush; seriously ripe and pliant. Red fruit and underbrush flavors are complemented by a saline element and some nutty oak. Wonderfully complex but still quite youthful, this velvety, seriously ripe wine finishes with suave tannins and superb energy and length. A beautiful example of this very strong vintage.
