    Justerini & Brooks Tasting note
    Sandrone, Barolo, Cannubi Boschis, 2008

At 300 metres altitude this is an earlier ripening site than any of the Vigne parcels vineyards, the result is less immediate and aromatic but there is great depth of flavour. The nose is initially reticent offering some ripe fruit, flower and sweet spice touches, the palate is firm, layered and velvety showing flavours of fruit liqueur, earth spice and touches of cocoa, this is dense, tight-knit and exhibits quite some intensity and structure. A great Barolo built for the long haul.

The 2008 Barolo Cannubi Boschis, from Sandrone's library release program, is very, very young. It is also interesting to taste the 2008 today, as it was made during a time in which the wines were more overt and had greater French oak influence. The dark cherry, spice, leather and menthol notes are just beginning to show the first signs of the development that takes place in bottle. Even so, the 2008 remains fresh and silky, with quite a bit of power and textural breadth and reserve.

    Sandrone

Sandrone are one of the modern day icons of Barolo. Since moving to their new winery just outside the town of Barolo 13 years ago they have not looked back. Showered with praise for their intense, suave-textured wines, Sandrone exploit 25ha in Barolo. Their cellar tastings and final selections are as rigorous as their vineyard work, a maximum of 75% of the crop makes it into Sandrone – bottled wines, the rest is sold off in bulk. After fermentation the Baroli are aged for 24 months in 500 litre oak barrels, 25% of which are new. The inaugural vintage in the new winery was the excellent 1999.
