Etna Bianco, 2022
The Etna Bianco Superiore designate is reserved for whites which come from the village of Milo on the eastern side of the volcano. The rain average in Milo is double that of the northern and southern areas. The steepness of the terraces of the entire municipality sees the sun forcibly setting very early in the shadow of the volcano. Furthermore, the climate is very humid, open as it is to the hot scirocco wind which, after crossing the Ionian Sea, blows directly on the vineyards. This combination, along with its shallow sandy soils, produces typically more viscous and concentrated wines with a high degree of freshness. The 2024 has a golden fruited edge with a certain grip and lightly bitter twist on the finish, making it well-suited to a range of foods.
critic reviews
The 2022 Etna Bianco is smoky in the glass, exciting the senses with a burst of crushed rocks and raw almonds before giving way to citrus-stringed peach. It’s soothingly soft and enveloping with weighty textures lifted by vibrant acidity. Masses of mineral-laden orchard fruits and sweet spices collide on the palate. The 2022 finishes remarkably fresh yet grippy and long, leaving the mouth watering for more. The level of complexity here is off the charts for an entry-level Etna Bianco. Yum!
