Trebbiano, IGT, 2015
The oak is less evident than on the 2014. Well-padded fleshy flavours of yellow plum and citrus together with more characterful, savoury notes of herb, stone and almond which add plenty of interest. A fascinating and unique wine. Fermented in cement vats (50% of the grapes are whole bunch) with 48 hours skin contact. Ageing then takes place followed by ageing in used oak barriques without any malolactic fermentation. Bottled without filtration on a descending moon.
critic reviews
Monteraponi takes a determined and confident approach with this barrique-fermented white wine. The 2015 Trebbiano shows a thick style and consistency and makes good use of the natural fiber and glycerin found in this workhorse grape. The wine ages on the lees for ten months in both new and neutral oak. The bouquet is robust and layered with apricot, pear and toasted almond. Trebbiano is not an overtly fragrant grape, so the bouquet is subdued and tame overall. However, you get lots of power and forward momentum in terms of mouthfeel.
