Textura Wines

Textura is an exciting new project making waves in the thriving Portuguese wine scene. Established in 2018 by Marcelo Araujo, this brand new winery is located on the slopes of the Serra da Estrela in the lauded Dao appellation. Through a combination of fully-owned and leased vineyards, the project is comprised of 22 hectares split across two Dao subzones: Serra da Estrela (the source of lighter, more delicate reds and whites) and Castendo (home to more sumptuous, aromatically exuberant wines), benefitting from a range of soils, altitudes, exposures and microclimates. Granitic soils predominate in the region, and altitude rises to an impressive 620m. Believing firmly in the virtues of sustainability, since 2020, all the Textura vineyards are in the process of full organic conversion, the oldest of which exceed fifty years. Seeking a low intervention, contemporary and fresh approach, Marcelo has surrounded himself with winemaking talent, particularly in the form of Mariana Salvador in the cellar, and superstar Portuguese winemaker Luis Seabra, who works for the project as a consultant. Favouring a light-touch style, the wines are all blends of native Dao varieties including Encruzado, Bical, Gouveio, Malvasia Fina, Cerceal Branco, Jaen, Tinto Roriz, Alfrochiero, Bastardo and Touriga Nacional, fermented naturally with minimal intervention. The wines see a short and gentle extraction in the cellar in order to emphasise the grapes’ bright, natural perfumes, granite-rich minerality and wild herb character. We are delighted to be introducing the wines to the UK and see this project as being a great name in the future.
