René's 2013 La Landonne lives up to its habit of being introverted and brooding, but there is clearly so much there waiting to burst forth. An imposing and statuesque Côte-Rôtie, layers of dark fruit stone and earth. The structure is solid indeed but the tannins are wonderfully velvety, dense powerful and profound. Aged in 10% new oak demi muid barrels for 18 months.
