The Chenin Blanc that goes in to the Steen bottling is a 0.6ha block planted in 1984. Tight and fine with freshly squeezed lemon juice, pith and fine dry earth, the 2022 is tight and fine and linear, accentuating the slate and salinity of the site, less fruit more steely acidity, just a little garrigue/fynbos note with aeration. Raised in used oak barrel for 10 months, the slate soils often promote a lightly reductive feel. 800m elevation.
