Rondevlei, Chenin Blanc, Swartland, 2021
The second vintage of Rondevlei, the 2022 is impressively structured and saline, with a core of deep yellow fruits like melon and quince, anchoring touches of grapefruit and spice. This vineyard was harvested on four picking dates from the end of January to the second week of February, and all four lots were kept separate. One third of the wine was fermented and aged in a concrete egg, the rest of the wine was fermented and matured in barrel before blending at the end of the year. Planted in 1984, it qualifies for the Old Vine Project seal. 1,800bts were produced. The soils are weathered gravel ore.
critic reviews
Coming from a vineyard planted in 1984, 2021 Rondevlei Chenin Blanc offers a bright nose with notions of lemon skin and dusty white florals. Light to medium-bodied, the wine is energetic with vibrant acidity and mineral tension and concludes with a fine, mineral-laced finish. Its delightful, elegant and cerebral.
