    Justerini & Brooks Tasting note

More yellow fruited than the main Chenin with salted melon and with more flesh than the main Chenin. Golden in timbre with a fluidity and river-like minerality, beneath a sheen of ripe fruit. Planted in 1984, it qualifies for the Old Vine Project seal. The soils are weathered gravel ore. Just 999 bottles were produced. Raised majority in concrete with a very small proportion in barrel.

The 2023 Chenin Blanc Rondevlei comes from vines planted in 1984 on deep sandy soils with irony deposits, with about 40% raised in concrete eggs. This has a captivating bouquet with scents of yellow plum, egg whites and almond, moving to nuttier aromas with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with a crisp, understated entry. Very linear and strict in style, this is definitely about texture rather than obvious fruit flavors, finishing with a liberal sprinkling of white pepper and ginger. Give this a couple of years in bottle.
