Chenin Blanc, Swartland, 2024
Radiant and expressive with a firm core of complex white and citrus fruits with touches of yellow, moving into a stone-inflected pithy character. There is a lovely gloss and roundness to the finish in this 2023 – a lovely flowing, complex Chenin with many different elements. Produced from four vineyards, 70% on Paardeberg granite, 30% on iron rich soils. The grapes spend 24 hours in a cold room, then they are whole cluster pressed, settled naturally and racked off in to barrel for fermentation and aging in a mix of 500, 400 and 300L formats. Aged sur lie for 10 months.
critic reviews
The 2024 Chenin Blanc is a blend of four vineyards of dryland bush vines, matured for ten months in concrete and used oak barrel. This is discreet on the nose, opening with light yellow plum and orange pith scents, though I am just seeking a little more vigour. The palate is well balanced with admirable weight. This is all about the texture, the umami sensation, plus that touch of stem ginger on the finish. Hopefully, the nose will open with time.
