La Muria, Viariz, 2020

The 2020 has an extra layer of depth and darker fruits joining the jostling red berries. Its sleek, almost Pinot-like feel with touches of caraway and anise, leads into a concentrated mineral-rich finish – remarkable given the 12.5% alcohol it carries. A truly stunning complex wine that impresses from the outset and will age along with the best wines of the world. Produced from the highest vineyard in Bierzo at 1045m facing south and southwest, fully exposed to the wind on complex slate, schist, quartz and dark soils. La Muria takes its name from the walls of rock created by people panning for gold in the valley in the Roman times – the discarded rocks amassed over time became dividing walls in their own right. There are two “Murias” in the vineyard which separates the central from the southwest facing plot. A total of 0.5ha and 900bts produced – 300 of which will remain in the estate library.
