La Poulosa, La Vizcaina de Vinos, Bierzo, 2016
A silky, detailed nose of red berries and sweet earth, cracked spice and black strawberry, finishing on sweet herbs and leafy pot pourri on the palate. From clay dominated soils at 550m of elevation and facing east. La Poulosa is one of the warmer vineyards in the range, planted in 1940. Whole bunch fermented, kept on the skins for 60 days and aged for a year in neutral 225L barriques.
critic reviews
Bright violet. Expressive cherry liqueur, blackberry and violet scents are complemented by building floral, exotic spice and succulent herb elements. Broad and fleshy on the palate, offering bitter cherry, dark berry, licorice and floral pastille flavors undergirded by a core of smoky minerality. The mineral and spice notes drive a long, sappy finish shaped by slowly building tannins. Made with 100% whole clusters.
