Ultreia, La Claudina, Bierzo, 2022
The 2022 is ripe and clear-cut, exuding notes of golden apples, lemon balm and a sense of mid-palate sweetness. Produced from a relatively flat 0.5HA parcel of vines with a south-southeast orientation on sandy soils in Valtuille, La Claudina is a warm site producing wines of roundness and complexity. The vines are now 50 years old. Production averages just 1,500-2,000 bottles a year. La Claudina sees no topping up, no malo and no batonage and is bottled after a year in foudré.
critic reviews
I find the 2022 Ultreia La Claudina to be a lot more subtle and elegant. It comes from a vintage when the vines delivered very healthy grapes and a larger crop. They had to wait to harvest the grapes because the higher yield meant the plants had problems to ripen all the fruit. The palate is elegant and fresh, with clean flavors and precision. 2,300 bottles produced.
