Finca de los Locos, Rioja, 2021
Finca de los Locos 2021 is bright crisp fresh, energetic and juicy – a very minerally Rioja with limestone to the fore. A little youthful austerity on this showing suggests it will drink best after 3-4 years in bottle. Graciano brings some dark fruit and structure to the Tempranillo, to the tune of 18%. The final 2% of the blend is Viura. Aged entirely in large 3500L oak vat for a year. A 2.80 hectare single vineyard planted at 550m elevation on gravel and sandy soils in Banos de Ebro in Rioja Alavesa.
critic reviews
The single-vineyard 2021 Finca de Los Locos comes from a plot in Banos de Ebro on a terrace from the Ebro River planted in 1981 on sandy and gravel soils. It's 75% Tempranillo, 20% Graciano and 5% Viura with 13.8% alcohol and a pH of 3.38, denoting very good freshness. Starting with this vintage, the wine is certified organic. It matured in 3,500-liter oak vats for one year. It feels harmonious, powerful and elegant with an expressive nose of flowers, wild berries and herbs and a touch of licorice. It's medium to full-bodied and beautifully textured, with very fine and elegant tannins. 10,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in December 2022.
