Volpert Vineyard, Chardonnay, 2021
Complex spicy grapefruit oil and sweet cream notes flood the nose in this expressive yet composed new bottling from Matt’s newest vineyard. Discovered and planted in 2015 the vineyard sits at the end of Taylor Lane – a highly coveted area to the west of Occidental – and is the closest site to the Ocean of all the Ferren vineyards. Composed and finely poised with fabulous depth and definition, the layering here, in this new vineyard site, is exceptional, with lemongrass, chamomile, salted butter and vanilla notes all coming together around an intense core of athletic fruit. Very fine extract and grip enhance the picture. Entirely planted to Mt. Eden selection. Just 65 cases were produced.
critic reviews
The 2021 Chardonnay Volpert Vineyard is a classic wine from the Taylor Lane District on the West Sonoma Coast. Bright, chiseled and focused, the 2021 screams with character. Lemon peel, white flowers, white pepper, slate, mint and crushed rocks are all beautifully delineated. This is seriously impressive.
