Mt Pajaro Vineyard, Pinot Noir, 2019
Mt. Pajaro is our most recent planting and in terms of vine selection and vine spacing, it could be our best yet, Kevin remarked. Planted in 2011 and 2012 this is the only vineyard in the Rhys holdings planted exclusively to high density planting, at between 9 and 12,000 vines per hectare, all of which is massale selection from Horseshoe and Alpine. Parading herbs, and bright red berries on the nose, then crackling notes of rosemary, smoked tea and crushed stones, this has great precision, intensity and a lifted, ethereal finish.
critic reviews
Lovely and coniferous on the nose, the 2019 Pinot Noir Mt. Pajaro Vineyard opens with black cherry, blueberry, redwood duff and evergreen aromas. The palate perfectly summarizes the Corralitos region's medium-bodied, seamless red-fruited profile and lifted saline energy. The elegant finish is already beginning to integrate, showing a solid tannic grip but emphasizing refreshing acidity. The Rhys team is confident that this site will produce Pinot Noir on par with its flagship Horseshoe and Alpine sites with time, and this vintage provides some foreshadowing of that future.
