93+/100Erin Brooks,Robert Parker Wine Advocate
The 2022 Freedom Hill Pinot Noir comes from vines planted in 2001 in marine sedimentary soils. It was fermented with 5% whole clusters and matured for 15 months in 15% new barrels. It opens with dark rhubarb and cranberry tones and gives way to notes of flint, pipe tobacco, rooibos tea leaves and orange bitters. The palate is seamless yet powerful. Silky and fresh, its concentrated fruit floods the mouth, and spicy accents linger on the extended finish. It's a touch more youthfully coiled than the other 2022 Pinot Noirs from Walter Scott and will benefit from 35 years in the bottle. 300 cases were made.
