Koosah, Eola Amity Hills, Pinot Noir, 2023
Koosah is the highest elevation vineyard in the Eola Amity Hills, rising to an elevation of 1080 feet. Produced from five different clones from this sheer volcanic slope, this is very refined and fragrant, with an intensely floral, red fruited character. Redolent raspberries, hints of rhubarb and leaf tea. Focussed, fine-boned with a distinct salty, mineral personaility. This 2023 Koosah is a more lifted, high-toned style with a real sense of drive, energy and finesse.
critic reviews
The 2023 Pinot Noir Koosah Vineyard comes from mixed clone vines planted in 2016 in volcanic soils at 720 to 1,080 feet in elevation. Fermented with 25% whole clusters and matured for 15 months in 45% new French oak, it has slowly unfurling scents of blackberry, rhubarb, blood orange, forest floor, violet and tobacco. The medium-bodied palate is powerfully styled with concentrated yet detailed flavors. It’s framed by chalky tannins and vibrant acidity and has a long, spicy finish. 175 cases were made.
The 2023 Pinot Noir Koosah Vineyard mixes dusty florals and dried black cherries with nuances of fresh mint. Soothingly round textures wash across the palate, carrying chalk-laced red and black fruits elevated by brisk acidity. A citrus component emerges through the finish as the 2023 tapers off with admirable length, remaining juicy and crisp. A subtle mineral crunch resonates on the finish. It is impossible to stop at just one glass.
