Sojeau, Eola Amity Hills, Pinot Noir, 2023
Sojeau is a south-west facing rocky slope made up of three different volcanic soils. Three clones are co-fermented, Pommard, Wadenswil and Dijon 114, with 30% whole clusters. Demonstrative Pinot aromas of bright red cherry, orange rind, dried flowers and pure raspberries. This is a super elegant cuvee with a wonderful sense of volume and texture. Almost Vosne-like in its aromatic profile and mouthfeel. Under the velure fruit lies fine salts and rocks. Elegant, refined and sumptuous. A superb Sojeau!
critic reviews
The 2023 Pinot Noir Sojeau Vineyard comes from Pommard, Wadenswil and Dijon clone vines planted in 2008 in volcanic soils. Fermented with 30% whole clusters and matured for 15 months in 35% new French oak, it has slowly unfurling scents of cranberry, red plums, rose petals, tobacco, flint and shiitake mushrooms. The medium-bodied palate is loaded with crunchy, spicy flavors. It’s framed by soft, chalky tannins and bright acidity and has a long, savory finish. 425 cases were made.
The 2023 Pinot Noir Sojeau Vineyard blossoms in the glass with sweet violet and lavender tones that complement ripe blackberries as a hint of wet stone joins the fray. Balanced inner sweetness and vibrantly ripe wild berry fruits are guided by cooling acidity. The palate is gently tannic yet long. It finishes with floral persistence and a subtle licorice tinge.
