Vinous’ Top 100 wines of 2025
As the year draws to a close, various publications and critics compile lists of their favourite libations from the past year. We are delighted to be purveyors of many of the top-rated wines recommended by the Vinous team. A group, which comprises some of the biggest and most respected names in the industry: Antonio Galloni, Neal Martin, Joaquín Hidalgo, Nicolas Greinacher and Anne Krebiehl MW, to name a few. So, without further ado, let’s dive into this vinous cornucopia.
No 3 is Brane Cantenac 2022 from the ubiquitous Margaux estate. Henri Lurton is very softly spoken, humble and demure, certainly not a man inclined to hyperbole, so when he told us this wine was “legendary, like 1945 or 1961” we took note. Neal martin, certainly agreed when he tasted in September 2025, “…the 2022 is a benchmark for the Margaux estate, its future North Star. This has a stupendous nose with intense Cabernet Sauvignon inflections, its intensity and delineation superior to the 2019 and 2020. An underlying floral scent emerges with time. The palate is medium-bodied with silky and fine tannins that frame the seductive black fruit laced with crushed peppercorns, and a touch of cedar on the crystalline finish. I raved about this 2022 from barrel and in bottle. I see no reason to change my "raving." Tasted at the Brane-Cantenac vertical at the château in September 2025. 98 Points
No 8 is Beau-Sejour Becot 2022, an equally impressive property, but this time on the limestone plateau of St Emilion. Julian Barthe has quietly been honing his family’s estate into one of the jewels of the Cote. Now certainly capable of rivalling neighbours: Beausejour, Canon and Angelus. Antonio Galloni gave this a perfect score in January 2025; “The 2022 Beau-Séjour Bécot is a total stunner. What a wine! The 2022 was magnificent en primeur, and it is all that from bottle. The aromatics alone are mesmerizing. Crushed rose petal, mint, blood orange, new leather and cedar meld into a core of pliant red-toned fruit. More than anything else, I am so impressed with the wine's precision and finesse. I have never tasted a Beau-Séjour Bécot like this.” 100 Points
No 23 is a British favourite - Leoville Barton 2022. Lilian and Damian Barton are on a roll, continually producing stunning wines from their famed St Julien estate. Even in warm vintages they manage to pair things back to a smart sophisticated level that always has mass appeal. Never overdone, never boring and always capable of ageing beautifully - 2022 is one of their best yet. Neal Martin wrote in January 2025 that it “… has a magnificent bouquet that fulfills my admittedly lofty expectations given its showing from barrel, blessed with an almost pixelated quality that previous vintages perhaps lacked. The nose is very precise with pure black fruit and fine mineralité. Elegant and poised, the medium-bodied palate features finely chiseled tannins and just the right amount of bitterness on the finish. Very persistent—a Saint-Julien you just don't want to finish. This ranks among the finest in the appellation." 97 Points
No 39 takes us further south in Bordeaux, to Barsac, with Doisy Daene 2022. Those with a penchant for sweet wine will be glad they read to this point. In a hot year, when Sauternes and Barsac wines tended to lack a touch of freshness, Doisy Daene produced a monumental effort. Completely devoid of cloying sweetness but still fit to bursting with ripe tropical and stone fruit notes, citric freshness, floral charm and immense length. Neal Martin praised it highly in January for having “…a powerful bouquet with touches of yellow fruit, pressed white flowers, saffron and jasmine emerging with time. This has fine delineation. The palate is supremely well balanced with caressing, viscous botrytised fruit effortlessly matched by the acidity. Poised and very tender on the long finish, this is a wonderful Barsac." 96 Points
No 41 is Rene Rostaing’s La Landonne 2022. This supreme Rhone vineyard in Cote Rotie is responsible for some of the greatest wine ever produced. Rostaing, perhaps less well known than Guigal is no less prodigious in sculpting hauntingly age worthy and mesmeric wines, his 2022 is a chip off the old block. Nicolas Greinacher called it “Brooding and complex, the 2022 Côte-Rôtie La Landonne has developed splendidly since I last tasted it from barrel one year ago. Fresh violets, stemmy subtleties, pencil shaving, black cherry and crushed rock notes are all dialed up. A slice of orange rind adds another aromatic layer. Firmly structured by ripe tannins, the 2022 is a singular La Landonne, closing with drive on the nuanced finale.” 95 Points
