Beaune, Grèves, 1er Cru, 2023

A Grèves of wonderful composure and textural sophistication, with plenty of salty, savoury umami and fruit; less immediately expressive than some of the other wines in the cellar, but also more composed and reserved and balanced. This has layers of salt and fine briary fruit. A great success. The Tollot-Beaut Grèves parcel is one of the oldest in the domaine, on fractured limestone, situated just below Bouchard’s famed Vigne de l’Enfant Jesus parcel. It’s an emblematic wine for the domaine, a parcel first bought by Nathalie and Paul Tollot’s great, great grandfather. The current vines were planted in 1968.
