Intensely perfumed, sweetly-scented fruit yet with an accompanying tension and precision. Crisp garriguettes strawberry flavours with touches of raspberry, the fruit is distinctly that of concentrated small berries and the gentle slow wine-making results in something fine-tuned, unforced and energetic. A Barbaresco of charm and effortless intensity. From the same hill as the Paje, the southwest-facing Asili is one of the most renowned vineyards in Barbaresco.

The 2010 Barbaresco Asili Vecchie Viti opens with a classic Asili bouquet of rose petal, mint and small red berries. Sweet, rich and beautifully layered in the glass, with plenty of Asili silkiness and perfume, the 2010 speaks to a total sense of grace. Rose petal, mint, crushed flowers and licorice are some of the many notes that add nuance through the finish. The 2010 can almost be enjoyed today, but it will be even better in another few years. The firm Nebbiolo tannins are as classic as classic gets. This is an example of a wine that might have been a bit sweeter and fresher with less time in barrel.
