Els Escurcons, Priorato, 2020

Despite the challenging vintage, the 2020 Els Escurcons showed exceptionally well. This pure Garnacha comes a vineyard that suffered a wild fire some years ago and is coming back to what it was before the fire. The vineyard, for which the wine is named, is one of the highest in Priorat and is the last to be harvested year after year, as the place is cooler than the vineyards around the winery, which possibly helped with the warm weather after the rain. There is tension and energy here; there's light; it's very lively, elegant and floral; it feels like a Garnacha from the south of France (Sara Perez mentioned La Meme from Gramenon, and I had to agree). It has 13.5% alcohol, a fine thread and a medium body. Only 600 bottles were filled in June 2022.
