Egly Ouriet, Viellisement Prolonge, Grand Cru, Extra Brut, nv
Extended ageing begins to reveal its nuances: a tightly woven but expressive nose of lemon peel, golden butter, cep and salt-crusted brioche. On the palate it is both immediate and layered, with impressive presence and a seamless texture. Already delicious on release but clearly built to unfurl further complexity over the coming years. A blend of 2017, 2016 and 2015.
critic reviews
Based on the 2018 vintage and disgorged in May 2026 with a dosage of two grams per liter after seven years on the lees in the bottle, Egly's NV Grand Cru V.P. bursts from the glass with aromas of yellow apple, pear, fresh bread and quince. On the palate, it is medium- to full-bodied, ample and textural, with incisive acidity, concluding with a long, chalky, green apple–tinged finish. Readers will require little additional motivation, as it remains one of the most reliable wines in the range, even if it does not quite attain the depth of the Blanc de Noirs Les Crayères.
As usual, the latest disgorgement of Egly's NV Extra-Brut Grand Cru V.P., this year based on the 2015 vintage complemented by reserve wines from 2014 and 2013, is one of the highlights of the range. Wafting from the glass with aromas of pear, green apple, freshly baked bread, crushed mint, honeycomb, white flowers and praline, it's medium to full-bodied, fleshy and layered, with a racy and concentrated core, a pretty pinpoint mousse and a long, saline finish.
