Egly Ouriet, Viellisement Prolonge, Grand Cru, Extra Brut, nv
Extended ageing begins to reveal its nuances: a tightly woven but expressive nose of lemon peel, golden butter, cep and salt-crusted brioche. On the palate it is both immediate and layered, with impressive presence and a seamless texture. Already delicious on release but clearly built to unfurl further complexity over the coming years. A blend of 2017, 2016 and 2015.
critic reviews
The NV (2017) Extra Brut V.P. Grand Cru (Vieillissement Prolongé) is another stellar wine in this set of new releases from Egly-Ouriet. Rich, creamy and ample from 84 months on its lees, the 2017-base V.P. is immediately alluring. White peach, flowers, chalk and a hint of spice all build beautifully. The V.P. is quite rich, yet it also remains wonderfully light on its feet. Needless to say, that’s an extremely appealing combination. This is pure seduction. Dosage is 2 grams per liter. Disgorged: July 2025.
As usual, the latest disgorgement of Egly's NV Extra-Brut Grand Cru V.P., this year based on the 2015 vintage complemented by reserve wines from 2014 and 2013, is one of the highlights of the range. Wafting from the glass with aromas of pear, green apple, freshly baked bread, crushed mint, honeycomb, white flowers and praline, it's medium to full-bodied, fleshy and layered, with a racy and concentrated core, a pretty pinpoint mousse and a long, saline finish.
