Clos des Goisses, Brut, LV, 2000

Available Vintages
justerini & brooks tasting note

These are very rare, released in editions of just a few hundred bottles a time, disgorged after 24 years sur lie in Philipponnat’s deep cellars. It offers a stunning combination of maturity and freshness, one that can only come from combining exceptional initial champagne, with patience. Ripe fruit, spice, and a combination of breadth and levity that only truly great champagne can achieve. A wine for the table, this will be a shape shifting beauty to follow right down to the very last drop of the bottle.

96/100Jane Anson,Inside Bordeaux

Fully in the sweet spot, ready to share. White truffles, soft baking spice, brioche, candied orange, saffron, tobacco leaf, crushed elderflowers, preserved lemons and nectarine pit. A beautiful Champagne that is fully in its gourmet, vinous stage. 4.5g/l dosage. Charles Philipponnat first vintage, less than 1,000 bottles on this release, fermented half stainless steel and half in Burgundy barrels.

Philipponnats 2000 Clos des Goisses L.V., now fully mature in both hue and aromatic promise, bursts from the glass with generous notes of ripe pear, honeycomb, orange zest and acacia blossom. Sourced from one of the hottest vintages of its time, it is full-bodied and enveloping, with ripe yet energetic acidity. Notably, the wine was vinified entirely in stainless steel tanks. Disgorged in March 2025 with the customary dosage of 4.5 grams per liter, this is a straightforward, expressive Clos des Goisses. However, one should not expect the structural harmony this site has achieved in its finest vintages. While this isnt a historic Clos des Goisses, the 2000 is drinking at its peak today.
