    Justerini & Brooks Tasting note

According to Charles, this is probably more forward that today's vintages will be at the same age, which simply means that future drinkers will need to be more patient as this bottle emerges in that wonderful sweet spot where complexity meets freshness. A shape-shifter, it offers up initial notes of mushroom, cacao and warm spice, before fresh apricot, mint, mandarin and orange peel emerge. A saltiness on the finish adds to the sense of freshness that seems to grow with every repeat visit to the glass. Disgorged in March 2023, experience denotes that, good as it is now, it is 18 months post disgorgement when these bottles really start to sing.

The 1998 Extra Brut Clos des Goisses L.V. is a beautiful wine for near and medium-term drinking. Tangerine peel, hazelnut, spice, chamomile and dried herbs open effortlessly. The 1998 shows the gentle patina of age yet also retains lovely freshness. It's a slender, nuanced Champagne that is all charm. Dosage is 4.5 grams per liter. Disgorged: March, 2023.

Disgorged in March 2023, the 1998 Extra Brut Clos des Goisses L.V. matured for 25 months in bottle and on lees. It reveals a brilliant, complex and intense bouquet with aromas of white pepper, smoke, orange peel, pastry, ripe fruits and flowers intertwined with a refreshing, delicate note of menthol. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and chiseled, its concentrated and racy with bright acids and an endless finish. Fully mature, it should age well over the next two to three years. This is a blend of 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay.
