Barolo, Brunate, Riserva, 2018
A very pure-fruited Riserva this year, the 2018 is harmonious and enveloping with a supple core of crushed fruits and flowers with tobacco leaf and sapid, juicy violet-hued fruits. The Riserva comes from old vines the heart of Brunate, the upper middle part, planted in 1942. Produced in the same way as the other wines with 24 months in 20% new oak barrels, but kept for an extra two years in bottle.
critic reviews
In the bottle with the dark brown label, the M. Marengo 2018 Barolo Riserva Brunate gives us the benefit of age, displaying pretty complexity and nuance. The bouquet starts off with great intensity. You get floral aromas, ripe red cherry, wet stone, pencil shaving and licorice root. The ferrous soil that we get in the younger vintages has transformed here into ethereal licorice-like notes. This wine makes good use of the Riserva denomination by showcasing intensity and complexity. A limited 700 bottles were made.
