Shiraz, Liandra, 1997
Big, concentrated cult Shiraz boasting a whole spectrum of primary fruit and secondary characteristics, flavours of bramble, blueberry, salts and minerals, farmyard and saddle leather notes. As complex and terroir orientated as new world shiraz gets. Drink now over the next 2-3 years.
critic reviews
Deep ruby-red. Slightly high-toned, complex aromas of cassis, redcurrant, Christmas spices, black olive, eucalyptus and earth. Thick, sweet, layered and quite concentrated; conveys a chewy impression of extract. Finishes with firm, slightly tough, tongue-dusting tannins and a note of dried spices.
The 1997 Shiraz Liandra (14.5% natural alcohol) is a blend of the Clarendon and Kangarilla vineyards. It has an opaque purple color, as well as black cherry and blackberry-scented aromatics with tarry pepper notes. The wine is enormous, with extraordinary fatness and succulence, an unctuous texture, as well as a long, 35-second finish. Drink it over the next 12-15 years. This wine is a crowd-pleasing, exotic offering that takes the level of richness and hedonism to sensational heights. This wine is worth trying if only because of its compelling purity, opulence, and explosive richness.
