Gaisberg, Erste Lage Riesling, 2020
Ripe yellow fruits, honeysuckle, spice and Mirabelle fruits burst out of the glass, leading to an array of tangy lime and citrus fruits, notes of pineapple and crisp green papaya nots on the palate. Fruity certainly, but also cleansing and mineral, finishing on salt and spices. From a steep terraced site on crystalline rock and mica schist, the Gaisberg is one of the best sites for Riesling in the region. Fermented and aged exclusively in stainless steel.

The radiant golden colored 2020 Ried Zobinger Gaisberg 1OTW Kamptal Riesling is fascinatingly clear, intense and mineral on the deep and complex yet fine and elegant nose that reveals ripe and concentrated lemon aromas intermixed with flinty notes from the gneiss and schist terroir of Eichinger's Gaisberg. Round and juicy but also crystalline and fine on the palate, this is a full-bodied, salty-piquant and sustainable Riesling with fine phenolic grip and stimulating piquancy on the finish. This is a rich but tensioned and still fine Riesling made for longer bottle aging. Tasted in Grafenegg, September 2021.
