Gewurztraminer, Grand Cru, Mambourg, Cuvée d'Or, Quintessence, SGN, 2008
The Mambourg is a Grand Cru vineyard planted on marne clay-dominated soils, this is a spectacular wine of some 207g/l of residual sugar, dense and thick but somehow this dances accross the palate, rich notes of blossom honey, quince, fig jam, apricot with a zingy citrus seam running through its core, thick-set but lively and deeply complex.
critic reviews
(for 375 ml.; 9.5% alcohol, 207 g/l r.s. and 8.5 grams of acidity) Medium gold. Exhilarating high-toned aromas of apricot, resin, caraway seed and honey. Impossibly thick and opulent, but with superb inner-palate energy and lift for the variety. Pure chewy botrytis has no doubt contributed to the concentration of sugars and acids. In sheer verve, this puts its 2006 Quintessence predecessor to shame. Exciting, tactile wine with great saline persistence.
