Domaine Weinbach
Pinot Noir, Altenbourg, 2023
justerini & brooks tasting note
From the single-vineyard Altenbourg, on predominantly clay-limestone soils just beneath the Grand Cru Furstentum, this Pinot Noir comes from two south-west facing plots, one planted 60 years ago and the other 20 years ago, the latter using a massale selection from Pommard’s Clos des Epenots. Due to the very small quantities produced, we were unfortunately unable to taste this wine. Traditionally, it offers a darker and sleeker profile than La Colline du Château, with smooth fruit, ripe tannins and greater structure. Aged for 24 months in barrique, with a small proportion of new oak.
