Baron de Brane, Margaux, 2015
It’s no secret that the Margaux commune shone in 2015, and one of the leading lights was the outstanding Brane Cantenac. Their second label Baron de Brane is also a real hit. It is bursting with pure cabernet fruit, seductive cassis, a touch of bramble, with notes of sweet briar and cedar. There is a voluptuousness and charm that makes this classic Margaux most alluring. Drink now-2025.
critic reviews
The 2015 Baron de Brane is a blend of 57% Merlot, 39% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 4% Cabernet Franc. Deep garnet with a hint of purple, it offers up plum preserves, redcurrant jelly, and cassis scents with hints of smoked meats, Indian spices, and dried roses. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is filled with rich red and black fruits, supported by fine-grained tannins and tons of freshness, finishing long and lifted.
The 2015 Baron de Brane has one of the more flamboyant Margaux bouquets, boasting precocious red cherry, crushed strawberry and cedar aromas, all very cohesive and displaying good vigor. The fresh, tensile palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannin, offering dark cherries, bay leaf and cedar toward the persistent finish. This is much better than the bottle opened at the vertical a few months earlier. Tasted blind at the Southwold 2015 Bordeaux tasting.
