Baron de Brane, Margaux, 2025
Brane Cantenac's second label, Baron de Brane is often a very good value buy from Margaux. The 2025 is a belter. Bright, cheerful, packed with delightful floral fruit, there's a nice energy here, a creamy, unctuous core of cherry fruit supported by round, grippy tannins. Really well-constructed, we expect this charming Baron to provide excellent drinking in four or five years' time
critic reviews
The 2025 Baron de Brane has a more tertiary nose than its peers, but there is dark berry fruit here, tinged with black tea. The palate is medium-bodied, with plenty of freshness and transparency on the entry. Fine-boned tannins, a keen line of acidity, gentle grip on the slightly chalky finish, with a pinch of black pepper on the aftertaste. Very fine.
Takes a breath to fully kick in, then shows ripe autumnal fruit character, with bright rubies and raspberries, liquorice and black chocolate. Higher Merlot and Cabernet Franc in the blend than usual, overall yield is 32.3hl/ha. 12.10% press wine, 3.62 pH. Harvested basically for the whole of the month from September 2 to 29 for the Carmanère. They are also trying Castets, but just 2nd harvest and neither time has really shown the beauty of the grape.
Sweet aromas of dark berries and creamy new oak introduce the 2025 Baron de Brane, a medium- to full-bodied, rich and fleshy wine that's built around ripe, powdery tannins.
