Château Certan De May, Pomerol, 2015

The best Certan de May ever? Well, certanly the best we have tasted in many many years. Jean-Claude Berrouet, the former wine-maker at Petrus is now consulting at Certan de May. The style is less exotic and confused and is a more focussed, more classical and altogether more alluring. The 2015 seems to marry the opulent, sexy style of Certan with the more structured, serious style of the last two vintages. Damsons, kirsch, tobacco, star anise and loganberry liqueur leap from the glass. The fruit profile is decadent, seductive and very sexy, yet there is both purity of fruit, an alluring freshness and whale bone tannins that bring total harmony and balance. An excellent Certan de May! Produced from 80% Merlot, 16% Cabernet Franc and 4% Cabernet Sauvignon on clay and deep gravel soils.
