Deep garnet-purple colored. Is a touch shy to start off, slowly unfurling to offer glimpses of red currants and black raspberries notes, plus touches of garrigue, crushed rocks, and forest floor. The light to medium-bodied palate is energetic and bright, taut with red berry and mineral layers and framed by grainy tannins, finishing earthy. Nice!
The 2024 Certan de May was picked 23 September to 6 October and is aged in 80% new oak. It has a strange nose that is missing some freshness. Likewise, the palate is framed by dry, grainy tannins that do not feel enmeshed with the sweet 'n' sour fruit. There's a dash of spice toward the attenuated finish, but overall, it is missing cohesion, finesse and harmony.
The 2024 Certan de May offers up a minty bouquet of cherries, berries and tobacco leaf, followed by a medium-bodied, fleshy palate that's fine-boned and discreetly herbal.
