Fennel, raspberry leaf, iris flowers, dried cranberry. 40% new oak. 34hl/ha. This is a superbly located estate, not quite delivery on the joyful potential of the vintage. One point downscore.
The 2023 Chasse-Spleen has a very promising bouquet that is well-defined with black fruit, cedar and tobacco scents, less floral than it showed from barrel. The palate is medium-bodied with black fruit, black pepper and tobacco notes, just tapering away marginally toward the finish. But there is freshness here, and it should age well in bottle.
Offering up aromas of minty cassis, dark berries and pencil shavings, the 2023 Chasse-Spleen is medium to full-bodied, fleshy and youthfully structured, with good depth at the core and a penetrating finish. It's a strong effort.
