Château Duhart Milon Rothschild, 4eme Cru Classé, Pauillac, 2014
In stark contrast to the Carruades, Duhart has made a sensational wine, but it will probably be an impossible sell, unless the estate makes a concerted effort on the price… Produced from 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot, this is the real deal - proper, serious Pauillac with more than a passing resemblance of Lafite! Initially brooding and introspective, aromatically reserved, but the palate is packed with pure flavours of cassis, lilac, roses, and gravelly minerality. There are such beautifully delineated flavours - strict, long and very noble, this is one for classicists. The more you work with it the more depth you discover; this grows in stature and hints at a very successful future. This could be one of the best buys from Pauillac.
critic reviews
The 2014 Duhart-Milon has a refined bouquet with dark berry fruit, cedar and light graphite scents that gradually unfold in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with sapid blackberry and bilberry notes. It's estuarine in style with a stocky and yet charming finish. This is a quietly impressive Pauillac. Tasted blind at the Southwold 10-Year-On tasting.
Medium to deep garnet-brick in color, the 2014 Duhart-Milon swans out with fragrant scents of Indian spices, menthol, and lavender oil over a core of warm cassis and plum preserves plus a touch of cigar box. The medium-bodied palate is bright and taut for its age, with fine-grained tannins and impressive tension to support, finishing minerally.
