    Justerini & Brooks Tasting note
    Lacoste Borie, Pauillac, 2016

If Xavier Borie's wonderful Grand Puy Lacoste doesn't offer enough value for money, then Lacoste Borie, the highly impressive second wine of this high flying 5th growth Chateau should do the trick! This has become a firm favourite of ours and discerning restaurants. Produced from 61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc it is very much a little GPL with its beautifully Cabernet scented bouquet of violets, cassis and gravel. There is admirable tension and verve; the fruit is juicy, pure and mouth-watering. Excellent value!

This is full of serious Pauillac tannins, great quality, with plenty of depth to the black fruits and acidity to underpin the palate. Firm in its framework, serious and with clear ability to soften over ageing, good quality, softened by edges of damp fern and rose petal aromatics. 3.6ph, 40% of production in this wine. 50% new oak for ageing.

A blend of 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, and 9% Cabernet Franc, the 2022 Lacoste-Borie is deep garnet-purple in color. It scoots out with eager-to-please scents of redcurrant jelly, fresh blackberries, and black raspberries, plus wafts of wild sage, roses, and tilled soil. The medium-bodied palate is bright and refreshing with soft tannins, leading to a perfumed finish on this pretty wine.

The 2022 Lacoste-Borie, raised in 50% new oak, has an ebullient bouquet with cranberry, raspberry and wilted rose petal scents. There is a trace of melted tar. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins. The 2022 shows a lovely balance, somehow carefree, with completeness and what I suspect will be enticing drinkability. That said, it has the structure to age.
