Château La Conseillante, Pomerol, 2006
Pretty purple flowers on the nose, violets with hints of vanilla, wonderfully expressive and yielding, with secondary espresso richness. Perfumed also on the palate, where pure dark fruit is wrapped around a brooding core of firm tannins and fine terroir. Fine definition, pinpoint focus, great balance and seductive complexity: this wine has it all. A blend of 85% merlot and 15% cabernet franc that will see 90% new oak.
critic reviews
Firm strict tannins, clear salinity on the finish coupled with dark berry fruits of cassis and bilberry. Tight on the finish, with curls of violet flowers, full of character and finesse. Just 200 bottles and one magnum left at the estate. 80% new oak, 20% one year barrel, 42hl/h yield.
The 2006 La Conseillante has a surprisingly rich and opulent bouquet that might lack complexity but goes for sheer hedonism. Mulberry, hints of fresh fig and prune, this is a La Conseillante that has avowed not to be outshone by the previous two vintages, though you can argue that it accomplishes that in rather obvious fashion. The palate is medium-bodied with supple, ripe tannin. There is plenty of truffle tinged red fruit and an engaging rounded texture, but now it is beginning to lose its complexity and it feels just a tad monotonous against the splendid 2005. Tasted at La Conseillante vertical at the property.
