Medium to deep garnet-purple colored. Notes of crushed cranberries and fresh raspberries jump from the glass, plus hints of dried herbs and wet slate with a touch of damp soil. The light-bodied palate is racy and lightly chewy with delicate red berry flavors and an herbal finish.
The 2024 Mauvesin Barton was picked from September 25 to October 9 and matured in one-third new oak. It has a pleasant bouquet with more complexity than its peers, offering brambly red fruit, hints of sage and cedar. The oak is deftly utilised here. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins and modest weight, classically styled as usual with a fresh if short finish. Drink over the several years.
They have had a great few runs of vintages here, and you can feel the winemaking successfully steer through the challenges of 2024, but the acidity remains high, keeping the focus on redcurrant, cloves and gunsmoke. Unfussy early to medium term drinking. Harvest 25 September to 9 October, Barton family.
