    Justerini & Brooks Tasting note
Château Moulin Riche, St Julien, 2016

Moulin Riche often offers an open, forward style from the Cuvelier stable. Leoville Poyferre hails from vineyards belonging to the great Leoville estate, whereas, Moulin Riche harks from an inland terroir at the north of the appellation near to the Pauillac border. The 2016 is crafted from 63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot and 11% Petit Verdot and offers plenty of crisp purple fruit and plummy liqueur. This is plush and crunchy and there is a lot of raw material. The tannins are marked, but this has energy and will all come together.

The 2016 Moulin Riche is deep garnet-colored. It sings of baked black and red plums, cassis, and fallen leaves, plus touches of mossy tree bark and pencil lead. Light to medium-bodied, the palate is vibrant and refreshing, delivering chewy tannins and bright acidity, finishing with a savory lift.

The 2016 Moulin Riche has a very well-defined bouquet, a mixture of red and black fruit laced with crushed stone and subtle cedar aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit and a little chewy on the midpalate. The muscular finish suggests that this needs another couple of years in bottle. Tasted blind at the Southwold tasting.
