92/100Jane Anson,Inside Bordeaux
The first vintage under the new ownership of Peter Sisseck and Silvio Denz, this was fermented in oak tanks in Château Faugères while they were building the cellar at Rocheyron. Bright plum colour, bright fruit, bracing acidity and freshness, the tannins are a little rustic, although there is plentiful signature orange peel and oyster shell twist from the limestone, alongside ripe summer fruit notes of figs, dates and kirsch. Harvest from September 15, fairly early for the year but the heat of the summer impacted the vines in a way that is no longer the case today, after years of careful soil work - introduction of organic farming began in this vintage. 30% new oak.
