Les Perrières, Vin de France Rouge, 2025

justerini & brooks tasting note

Omri explained that spring was easy with no frost or mildew pressure. They had a beautiful flowering at the end of May and the water table was healthy. This underground reserve started to evaporate as the temperature rose. Cover crops were removed as they were competing for water and the height of the canopy was lowered several times, although the vines were allowed to grow horizontally to provide shade. The team also opened the soil every time there was any moisture to aid retention. This, the eighth rendition of Les Perrières, from the high limestone plateau of Meyney, is produced from 51% Bouchet and 49% Merlot, all massale selections from the Lafleur vineyard. Opening with bright, crisp fruit, brambles and blackcurrants and a touch of nori. Very mineral, and tightly-knit, full of energy and an almost citric acidity. Lots of saline just after the attack. Refined and long and super-elegant with notes of orange rind on the finish. Complex, nice oak spice and pure fruit. This is a serious, cool wine, which grows on you, finishing with fine-bone china, linear tannins.

The 2025 Les Perrières was picked between September 5 and 15. This has a vivid nose with blackberry, raspberry, crushed stone and light rose petal scents. Fine delineation and you can really feel that limestone terroir. The palate is beautifully balanced, with almost a touch of orange rind underneath the layer of red berry fruit. Fine poise, with a touch of white pepper, moderate length and fine precision on the finish. Excellent.

Highlights the nature of Perrières, with its expansion through the mid palate that lets out creamy raspberry and blueberry fruits with a shot of chalky tannins and crushed oyster shell. Love the hidden depths of Perrières. This is the sixth vintage, and the vines are getting a little older, able to better withstand the dry summer. 33% new oak for ageing. Harvest September 5 to 15.
