The Guinaudeaus have long admired the wines of Châteaux Canon, Magdelaine, Belair and Ausone; all produced on the great limestone Côte of St Emilion. They pondered what their Bouchet (old Cabernet Franc) genetics would produce on a similar limestone terroir. Years of soil analysis and negotiation followed, then a huge replanting project and experimentation. After a decade of production, this project is beginning to affirm the Guinaudeaus original convictions. The precision and quality of its tannins, the inherent complexity and restrained power, and the very long mineral finish makes Les Perrières de Lafleur 2018 a grand vin in the lineage of Château Lafleur.
The heart of Les Perrières de Lafleur is situated at the hamlet of Meyney, on the south-west ridge of the plateau of Fronsac. The subsoil is intertwined with ancient limestone quarries, which offer Les Perrières de Lafleur a great viticultural potential. Planted with 50% Bouchet originating at Lafleur and 50% of Merlot, the vineyard is managed by the Château Lafleur team, and the vinification of its fruit is done with the same precision and expertise.
