Providence, Pomerol, 2007

Good dark purple colour; dark damson fruit on the nose with intense elements of leafy tobacco, smoky minerals and gravely elegance, allied with just a touch of meaty richness, and there is also sandalwood, with spice and savoury touches within; juicy core, good soft fruit tannins and a lovely freshness on the long finish. Very good. Lying as it does on the precious strip between Cheval Blanc and Le Pin, which is home also to VCC, Evangile and La Conseillante and consists of arguably the finest soils on the plateau of Pomerol, this relative newcomer has truly earned its spurs in this troublesome vintage, producing one of the finest wines of the vintage and underlining the importance of its top quality terroir.
