Bâtard-Montrachet, Grand Cru, 2019
A fine parcel of Bâtard on the Puligny side of the vineyard near Pierre Morey's vines, abutting Montrachet. Fermentation and élévage take place in 350 litre barrels, with no bâtonnage, for 12 months before six months in stainless steel.
critic reviews
The 2019 Batard-Montrachet Grand Cru offers up aromas of pear, orange oil, warm bread, white flowers and praline. Full-bodied, textural and muscular, it's rich and powerful, with a deep and fleshy core, succulent acids and a long, resonant finish. This broad-shouldered, gastronomic Batard will be at its best with a bit of bottle age.
The 2019 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru for the second year running has no new oak. It has a beautifully defined bouquet with citrus peel, Clementine, lemon verbena and light limestone aromas. This is wonderfully focused and intense. The palate is well balanced with a saline entry, taut and crisp with a flinty opening, then slams down the shutters towards the finish as if to say, how rude it is to be assessed at this stage (fair enough). So give this 5-6 years in bottle because there's a killer wine waiting for you.
