justerini & brooks tasting note

A cracker. Chalky, complex and with more finesse than the Bourgogne. Great mineral tension cushioned by a wonderfully integrated whisp of oak. The palate develops notes of white flower, citrus, and greengage but the minerally saltiness and stony chalk character is never far from the surface. Superb. Fermentation and elevage take place in 350 litre barrels, with no battonage, for 18 months. This comes from the higher part of the Fussière vineyard where the poor soil is well suited to producing white wines.

The 2020 Maranges La Fussières 1er Cru Blanc has a vibrant bouquet of fresh grass clipping, gooseberry and citrus peel aromas, taut and somehow a little Muscadet-like. The palate is fresh on the entry and offers a fine bead of acidity and flavors of lime and Granny Smith apples mixed with subtle apricot and white peach notes toward the finish. Real vim and vigor here. Excellent.
