Maranges, La Fussière, 1er Cru, Rouge, 2019
A fantastic mix of juicy, hearty full ripe fruit and savoury , lip-smacking minerality. Broad hedgerow berry flavours cover every corner of the palate but do so evenly and seamlessly, whilst a savoury, stone and forest floor note tempers the fruit and gives it grounding and definition. Expressive, bursting with character and brilliantly judged. Surely one of the value red wines of the vintage. Fermented with 20% whole bunches and rearing is in 25% new oak barrels.
critic reviews
The 2019 Maranges 1er Cru La Fussiere opens in the glass with notes of peonies, cherries, wild berries and spices. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and precise, with lively acids, fine tannins and a perfumed, mouthwateringly saline finish, it's a real success. This cuvee has grown, as the Bachelet brothers have acquired more parcels in this stony climat.
The 2019 Maranges La Fussières 1er Cru Rouge, which contains around 30% whole bunches, has a well-defined nose with autumn leaves and tea leaf infusing the vibrant red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with a structured opening, very fresh and brimming with tension, harmonious from start to finish with a liberal sprinkling of cracked black pepper on the very sustained aftertaste. Excellent.
